Reflection 7

Fahmi YB and I and Ah Chong(Afiq)

Last Tuesday, we had our first INDUSTRIAL VISIT to Canon Opto Malaysia located at Shah Alam. We took the 7.30am bus there which was provided by UTM. 2 lecturers followed us there. When we arrived at Canon Opto, we were greeted by friendly staff and personel from Canon.

Some of the models being displayed at the reception counter.
En.Redzuan and I
We then were gathered to hear a brief intoduction of Canon Opto Malaysia and also safety rules and regulations. The gathering was held in a hall.

The students hearing to on-site talk

Chemical Dilution Area

The chemical dilution area is to dilute any harmful wastes that are released during the whole manufacturing and production line.

One of Canon's personnel explaining to us about the dilution processes

Some students were really tired because they woke up really really early for this industrial visit.

the DO's and DONT's inside the company

Waste produced during the whole process is being stored into safe containers to be later disposed at proper locations.

Some waste/rubbish are being compressed into smaller/simple rubbish that has not much toxin contents in it.

Reflection 6

こんばんは
(Good Evening)

Pen & Paper

Hey! All you need is Pen , Paper and Love ;)

We had a special speaker Mr. Vivek Panicker, an Executive Director from Titan Thermal Solutions to explain about some of the roles and importance of Electronics System in the current industry, the overview of the Imaging Industry and a little on Electronics in the Thermal Imaging Industry

2nd year ESE students
1st year ESE students

Mr.Vivek was real experienced in the Thermal Imaging field. Some 2nd year Electronic System Engineering(ESE) students also joined the talk.

Overview of Electronics System:

  •   Fundamental to our daily life
  • —  Have played a key role in advancement of technology
  • —  Replaced previous systems and are more integrated into  current society
  • —  Will be a mainstay in future development

ELECTRONICS SYSTEM PROGRESSION:
  •        LARGE --> SMALL --> MINIATURE
  •        SIMPLE --> COMPLEX ARCHITECTURE
  •        ANALOG --> DIGITAL
Last time there were 5 major categories that were related to electronics system which were consumer, industrial, defense, communications and information processing system. Nowadays(modern), there are many more categories. Some examples are; medical and imaging.

THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF SPECIALIZED FIELDS IN THE IMAGING INDUSTRY:
  1.         DIGITAL IMAGING
  2.         GEOGRAPHICAL IMAGING
  3.         MEDICAL IMAGING
  4.         MOLECULAR IMAGING
  5.         OPTICAL IMAGING
  6.         RADAR IMAGING
  7.         THERMOGRAPHY IMAGING
  8.         CHEMICAL IMAGING

Reflection 5

Good morning people... Heyhey! This time it's our reflection number 5.. This time, we had a speaker from Canon Opto Malaysia Sdn.Bhd. to give a little talk to all of us. The guy from Canon first gave a brief understanding of himself. His name is Mohd. Azlan bin Amran, a senior manager at Canon. He explained about the process lens making and that Canon now uses Process Drawing to produce their products and no more making prototypes. Therefore the canceling out of prototype making reduces wastage of substance and materials. Mr.Azlan also mentioned abt some Japanese work culture that he experienced. Some examples are the "Who, What, When, Where and Why" concept.. That's all I could talk about this time's reflection. Hope u guys enjoy it although it is just a brief one. Thanks

Reflection 4

もしもし-HELLO!

Dr.Azran Azhim
Well, this week's workshop was cancelled and instead transformed into an informational lecture/talk by Dr.Azran Azhim Noor Azmi. Dr.Azran is a lecturer for the Electronic Systems department under the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology.

On the other hand, a few undergrads were disappointed due to the fact that electronic workshops with En. Ahmad Redzuan had to be postponed to some other time. No MULTISIM and ULTIBOARD for the time being.

The class was a large classroom because we combined the 2 sections in Electronic System Engineering (ESE).

Dr. Azran thought us some basic electronic devices (eg; Operational Amplifiers). He also thought us some basic engineering calculation techniques. He also briefed us about some of the Elective courses offered in MJIIT during our final year. He mentioned about Bioelectronics, Industrial Automation and Embedded System Engineering.

Here are some of the pictures I quietly captured in his classroom :)
A backview of the classroom
A fellow student researching some ideas in the class room
Dr. Azran explaining to a fellow student about some engineering terminology

This is a brief video I took from youtube explaining BioElectronics

Reflection 3

HAPPY HARI RAYA 2012 VIEWERS

For this time Electrical Workshop; we are given the task to design our very own Ultiboard.
--> Dr.Wiki said "NI Ultiboard or formerly ULTIboard is an electronic Printed Circuit Board Layout program which is part of a suite of circuit design programs, along with NI Multisim. One of its major features is the Real Time Design Rule
Check".

Some of the students learning how to use ULTIboard.

--> The picture on your right may look simple. Scroll down and take a Second look. Your opinions may vary. ;)

<--The final 3D view of my completed ULTIboard design-->

This video shows you how to select multiple objects on ULTIboard. It also briefly teaches you how to handle this complicated software.

These are some real complicated ULTIboard designs that I've found on the internet. Maybe during 3rd year i'll do something like that ;)

PS: This workshop was enjoying and brought back many memories from diploma time. :) I still remember the past but now, i'm gonna cherish the present.

Reflection 2

Hey you guys! Today i'm gonna talk about my Multisim and Ultiboard workshop. It was a real nice workshop because i got to refresh my memory about Multisim and Ultiboard .

The computers in the lab were old
ones, but hey! at least the computers are usable. Some of the computers cant be turned on and some were 'hanged'. So yeah, UTM definitely needs a major improvement in this department. Maybe some iMacs would do the job ;)

Some of the students were so hyped up to learn about Multisim and Ultiboard

One of the example circuit designs that I got to try out (Multisim). No doubt it is was hard finding the components in that vast library(database). but since we are here to study, we gotta try and learn from our mistakes

And finally, Dr.Kamal gave a brief explanation about the course's rubric(marking scheme) and discussed about the industrial visit (which we are all looking forward to)

Reflection 1

みなさん、こんにちは (Hello everyone)

Yesterday I attended a subject called; Introduction to Electronic System Engineering. Okay! Before that; I have to inform you that I was waiting in the wrong class for 20 minutes. Back to my topic - I met a new lecturer and also friend, Dr.Kamal.

First, Dr.Kamal asked us to introduce ourselves and why did you choose electronic engineering?
--> My intro was simple; Hi! I'm Patrick. From Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. And why did I choose elecronic engineering? It's because I studied power engineering at diploma level before and I like to create new and complicated stuff from simple stuff. <3 font="font">

He also gave us a brief introduction about the course and followed up with some basic engineering knowledge questions. I guess it was easier for those diploma students in the class because they already learned about electrical and electronic engineering during diploma level.

Some examples of engineering questions were; drawing a sinusoidal waveform, an electric circuit and etc.

Soooo, what is electronic engineering? I guess there's a rough picture about it in your head right now.

But actually, electronic engineering is very complicated. It's not as simple as you guys think it is. But anyhow, I will persevere and go through this course and get my PTPTN waived (1st Class Hons.).

So Yeah! The class was good but the air-cond was reallllll badddddd......... xoxo!
